PowerStove 1.0 — Modular Heat Storage

The PowerStove 1.0 is a modular installation for long-term heat storage. Electrical energy from solar panels, wind turbines or the electricity grid is converted into heat and stored in magnetite. The heat battery is charged and discharged via integrated heat exchangers. Thermal oil is used for heat delivery, transporting the heat to one or more consumers. The PowerStove is connected to an Energy Management System (EMS), enabling intelligent charging at moments with favorable electricity rates.

01

Development

The challenge was to design and build a scalable, modular heat battery at full scale that meets all market requirements and CE directives. The installation had to charge intelligently at favorable rates without overloading the energy grid.

02

Realization

Performance is continuously measured and was documented in early 2024 in a precise and comprehensive measurement plan, carried out under supervision of a recognized technical advisory and analysis bureau.

03

Result

The PowerStove 1.0 was ready for market introduction by mid-2024 and built in accordance with applicable CE directives. The measurement plan covered capacity, charge and discharge rates, and insulation loss at various temperature levels — externally validated and CE-certified.

About Heatwacht

Our story

Our story begins in 1960, when founder Hans Wolters gains an important insight at a young age: energy is valuable and anything but self-evident. This conviction forms the common thread in his career. Over the years, he builds extensive practical experience as an installation technician, first as an employee and later as an independent entrepreneur.

During that period, he works on, among other things, the installation of gas pipelines, central heating systems, and his technical craftsmanship grows.

In 1989, this experience leads to the founding of Silowacht. The company specializes in raw material storage and dosing systems and develops into a reliable player within this niche area. For years, technical precision and custom solutions are central.

Through service and maintenance, we have gained deep insight into the practice of production processes. In environments where processes must function continuously and downtime has direct impact, we develop robust and predictable systems that perform under all circumstances. Automating and monitoring these processes is in our DNA and is supported by an experienced team of professionals who have been working together for over 15 years.

After the sale of Silowacht in 2018, room arises for a new ambition: contributing to an energy system that is smarter, more sustainable and more independent. From this vision, the PowerStove emerges — from research to a scalable solution for reliable heat storage.

This years-long practical experience forms the basis for the technical choices and system design of the PowerStove, developed by a team with deep experience in design, construction and service. Reliability and continuity are not preconditions, but starting points.

In 2023, construction of the PowerStove begins. After a careful start-up and further refinement, official validation follows in 2024: measurement results are externally verified, CE marking and the patent are obtained. With that, the PowerStove is ready to take its place in the market — as the result of decades of experience, craftsmanship and a lasting conviction that energy can be used more intelligently.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you want to know about thermal energy storage and heat storage.

Thermal energy storage (TES) stores energy in the form of heat so it can be used later. Our technology stores this heat in magnetite, a pure material that can safely retain large amounts of heat. The stored heat can then be used as process heat for industry, building heating, and district heating. Learn more about our heat battery and heat storage solutions.
